The number that decides your final invoice isn't cubic yards — it's pounds. Here's the math, in plain English.

The allowance

The standard 7-day rental at $485 includes 2 tons — that's 4,000 lbs of debris riding free. The 24-hour $299 rental includes 0.75 ton. The truck weighs in at the landfill; anything over your allowance bills at $90 per ton, prorated.

What 2 tons actually looks like

For a normal household cleanout — furniture, boxes, bagged junk, some carpet — 2 tons is generous. A full 20-yard bin of mixed household material typically lands between 1.5 and 2.5 tons. You might tip slightly over; you might not.

The heavy hitters

Density is the trap. These materials blow past 2 tons long before the bin looks full:

• Roofing shingles: ~250 lbs per square — 20 squares is already 2.5 tons
• Ceramic tile & mortar: a single bathroom demo can hit 1 ton
• Concrete, pavers, dirt, sod: a bin even ¼ full can exceed the truck's legal limit
• Wet lumber and soaked carpet: Florida rain can add hundreds of pounds overnight — tarp the bin if storms are coming

Do the estimate in 30 seconds

Mostly furniture and junk? Relax — you're fine. Demo debris? Add up the heavy stuff: tile bathroom (~1 ton) + old carpet (~0.3 ton) + everything else (~0.7 ton) = 2 tons, right at the line.
