Refrigerators and freezers need refrigerant removed first — washers, dryers, and stoves don't. See Florida appliance disposal rules for dumpster rentals and KYN pricing.

Why appliances aren't all treated the same

Cleaning out a kitchen, garage, or rental unit almost always means old appliances come with it. The good news: most of them are simple, heavy items that roll-off dumpsters handle every day. The catch is refrigerant. Any appliance that once cooled air — refrigerators, freezers, window or through-wall AC units, dehumidifiers, and wine coolers — contains refrigerant gas under Section 608 of the federal Clean Air Act. That gas has to be recovered by an EPA-certified technician before the unit can be scrapped or landfilled. Skipping that step isn't a small technicality; it's the difference between a legal disposal and a violation that can follow the property owner, not the hauler.

This is exactly the rule covered in our what can't go in a dumpster in Florida guide — appliances with refrigerant sit in the "needs prep first" category, not the "never allowed" category.

Getting refrigerant removed before pickup

This is the one step homeowners in North Port, Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Englewood, Arcadia, and Venice most often miss. A few ways to handle it, in order of convenience:

Once the refrigerant is out and you have documentation, the empty appliance is treated the same as any other heavy item — it can go straight into your KYN dumpster.

Weight and space — one appliance rarely breaks the budget

A standard refrigerator or washer weighs somewhere between 150-300 lbs, so one or two appliances alongside a normal cleanout will not push a load past the included tonnage on most jobs. If you're clearing an entire kitchen suite plus renovation debris in the same dumpster, weight adds up faster — see our weight limits guide for how tonnage and overage charges work. Overage runs $80-90/ton beyond what's included.

KYN runs one dumpster size — a 20-yard roll-off that fits a standard residential driveway and handles roughly 7-8 pickup-truck loads. That's plenty of room for a full kitchen appliance swap plus general cleanout debris in the same rental. If you're not sure it'll cover your whole project, our dumpster size guide walks through sizing by job type.

Pricing for a kitchen or laundry room cleanout

Arcadia delivery add+$25$510 std / $324 quick

Delivery adds are small, flat, and published before you book — there's never a surprise line item on your invoice. If this is a single appliance swap rather than a full room cleanout, the 24-hour quick option usually makes more sense than a full week.
