Every dumpster rental fee explained: base rate, overage per ton, extra days, same-day delivery, boards, zone fees. See what competitors hide and what KYN publishes upfront.

By Roberto “Robert” Quiñones, Owner-Operator · KYN Hauling LLC

Quick answer: A standard 20-yard roll-off from KYN starts at $485 for 7 days (North Port and Port Charlotte), and that price already covers delivery, pickup, and 2 tons of debris. Beyond that base, the only fees that apply are ones tied to something you actually use: going over the weight limit ($80-90/ton), keeping the dumpster past 7 days ($15-20/extra day, or +$60 for 10-day, +$120 for 14-day), same-day delivery (+$50), driveway-protecting boards ($25), or delivery outside the base zone (Punta Gorda +$10, Englewood +$15, Arcadia +$25; Venice quoted). See the full list on our pricing page.

Why "how much does a dumpster cost" doesn't have a one-word answer

Type "dumpster rental cost near me" into Google and you'll get a wall of $299 and $399 ads. Then the truck shows up, the invoice arrives, and the real total is $150 higher than the quote. That's not an accident. In roll-off dumpster rental, the base price is the bait, and the fees are where a lot of companies quietly make their margin back.

Roberto Quiñones built KYN Hauling in Southwest Florida on the opposite idea: publish every fee, up front, before anyone books. If a fee exists, it's on the pricing page. If it doesn't apply to your job, you don't pay it. This page walks through every fee that can appear on a KYN roll-off dumpster invoice, what triggers it, what it costs, and — because we've read the fine print on the other guys — what competitors tend to leave out of their advertised rate.

The base rate: what's actually included

KYN rents one dumpster size — a 20-yard roll-off, roughly 22 feet long by 8 feet wide by 4 feet high, holding about 7-8 pickup truck loads. That's on purpose: one size covers driveway cleanouts, roofing jobs, remodels, and estate cleanouts without you having to guess between four confusing options. See the full breakdown in our dumpster size guide.

Rental typePriceWhat's included
Standard 7-day rental$485Delivery, pickup, 2 tons of debris
24-hour rental$299Delivery, pickup within 24 hrs, 2 tons
Contractor rate$425-450 (7-day) / $499-525 (monthly)Volume pricing for repeat job-site use
Roofing shingle rate$550Priced for shingle weight density
Roofing tile rate$650Tile is heavier than shingle, priced accordingly
Heavy debris rate$750Concrete, dirt, brick, and other dense material

Notice roofing and heavy-material rates are already higher up front — because KYN prices for the real weight of the job instead of quoting a cleanout rate and hitting you with overage later. Not sure which category your project falls into? Compare a roof tear-off against a concrete/dirt/sod job before you book.

Fee 1: Weight overage — $80 to $90 per ton

The base price includes 2 tons. Go over that, and KYN charges $80-90 per additional ton, based on what the landfill scale reads when the truck weighs in — not a guess, not a flat "heavy load" upcharge. Most residential cleanouts and single-room remodels stay under 2 tons without any trouble. The projects that commonly go over are concrete, dirt, sod, roofing tile, and full-house renovations with a lot of drywall and old flooring.

This is the single most-hidden fee in the industry. Some competitors advertise a price "with weight included" but don't say how much weight, so a homeowner has no way to estimate their real cost until the invoice lands. KYN states the 2-ton allowance and the per-ton rate on the pricing page before you book. For a project-by-project breakdown, see dumpster weight limits explained and how much fits in a 20-yard dumpster.

Fee 2: Extra days and extended rentals

Renovation projects run behind schedule constantly, and a dumpster sitting in your driveway an extra two or three days shouldn't be a surprise fee. Because the per-day and per-tier rate is published, you can plan your timeline against the real cost instead of finding out at pickup. Full timeline planning is in how long can you keep a rental dumpster.

Fee 3: Same-day delivery — $50

Need a dumpster today, not tomorrow? Same-day delivery adds $50 because it means pulling a truck off its planned route to fit you in. If your project can wait even one day, book ahead and skip this fee entirely. If it can't — say a contractor deadline or a last-minute cleanout before a move — the fee is published, not a surprise surcharge added after the fact. Fee 4: Driveway boards — $25

A loaded 20-yard roll-off is heavy, and setting it directly on asphalt or a newer concrete driveway can leave marks or cause cracking, especially in Florida heat when surfaces soften. Boards go under the dumpster's contact points to spread the weight and protect the surface. It's a $25 add-on, and it's optional — you decide whether your driveway needs the protection. See protect your driveway from a dumpster for when this matters most and when it's unnecessary.

Fee 5: Zone / delivery-area adjustment

KYN's base rate applies to North Port and Port Charlotte. Every additional zone has a stated add-on, not a hidden markup buried in a "custom quote":

ZoneAdjustment
North Port / Port CharlotteBase rate, no adjustment
Punta Gorda+$10
Englewood+$15
Arcadia+$25
VeniceQuoted individually

A dumpster company isn't the same price area-wide — fuel, drive time, and route density are real costs that vary by town. What matters is whether that variance is published or hidden inside a "call for pricing" quote. Check your specific zone: North Port, Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Englewood, Arcadia, or Venice.

What competitors typically don't put on the page

Based on how most roll-off companies structure their online pricing, the fees that tend to stay off the advertised rate are the weight allowance and overage rate (often just says "weight included" with no ton figure or per-ton cost), the extra-day rate (often requires a phone call to find out), and zone/delivery adjustments outside the main service area (frequently a "contact us for a quote" wall). Same-day fees and driveway boards are sometimes disclosed, sometimes not, depending on the company.

KYN's approach is the opposite: every one of the five fee categories above is stated with a dollar figure on the pricing page before you ever pick up the phone. If you want a broader market comparison across Southwest Florida, our 2026 price index tracks what's being charged across the region.

Permits: the fee that isn't KYN's to charge

One thing that isn't on KYN's fee list at all: permits. If the dumpster sits on your own driveway, no permit is needed. If it has to sit in the public right-of-way — the street or curb area the city or county controls — you may need city or county approval, and that's a separate process between you and your local government, not a KYN charge. See dumpster permit rules in North Port for specifics before you plan curb placement.

How to estimate your real total before booking

Whether you're doing a kitchen or bathroom remodel, a flooring tear-out, a garage or estate cleanout, or a whole-house renovation, the same five fee categories are the only ones that can ever appear — nothing else gets added after delivery. If you're weighing a dumpster against a junk removal service, our junk removal vs. dumpster rental comparison breaks down the cost difference.

Contractors: fees work the same way on volume accounts

Contractor and monthly accounts follow the identical fee structure — weight, extra days, same-day, boards, and zone — just applied against the contractor base rate instead of the residential one. No separate fine print, no different rules for repeat customers. See contractor dumpster service and contractor accounts for volume pricing details.
