Pick the Right Project Scope

Most cleanout headaches start before the dumpster ever arrives — they start with a fuzzy plan. "Clean out the garage" is not a scope. "Empty the garage, the lanai, and that pile behind the shed" is.

Walk it, count it, write it

Grab your phone and walk every space you plan to clear. Estimate in pickup-truck loads — it's the unit everyone can picture. A 20-yard roll-off holds roughly 7–8 pickup loads, so:

• 1–3 loads, one afternoon of work: the 24-hour rental at $299 (0.75 ton included) is usually plenty.
• 3–8 loads, or a weekend project: the standard 7-day 20-yard at $485 (2 tons included).
• More than 8 loads: plan a swap — we haul the full bin off, empty it, and bring it back.

Scope creep is real

Here's what happens in half the driveways in North Port: the dumpster shows up, and suddenly the whole family remembers things they've wanted gone for years. That's fine — it's actually the best time to purge — but plan for it. If your walk-through says "about 6 loads," assume you'll find 2 more.

Time matters as much as volume

Florida heat is a scope factor. Loading a dumpster in July at 2 p.m. is a different job than loading at 8 a.m. If you're doing the labor yourself, the 7-day rental buys you early mornings all week instead of one brutal Saturday. Extra days beyond 7 are just $20/day if life gets in the way.
